Edinburgh Airport or Glasgow Airport?
Most Dunfermline journeys use one of two airports. Edinburgh Airport is the closer of the two, around 25–30 minutes away via the Forth bridges, and is the transfer we run most often — for business trips, short breaks and visiting colleagues alike. Glasgow Airport is roughly 55–60 minutes away via the M9 and M80, and tends to come up more for charter holiday flights and routes Edinburgh doesn't serve directly.
If your flight is available from both airports, journey time is usually the deciding factor — Edinburgh will get you home or to check-in faster for most Dunfermline addresses. Either way, the booking process and the fixed-fare, flight-tracked approach are the same.
Pickups from Across Fife, Not Just Dunfermline
This guide covers Dunfermline as the starting point, but the same airport service covers the wider area we operate in — Rosyth, Inverkeithing, North Queensferry, Dalgety Bay, Limekilns and the surrounding villages. If you're travelling from one of these towns rather than Dunfermline itself, journey times to Edinburgh and Glasgow will differ slightly, so mention your exact pickup address when booking rather than assuming the Dunfermline timings above apply.
Choosing the Right Pickup Time
For departures, the safest approach is to work backwards from your check-in or security target time, then add your journey time plus a reasonable buffer for traffic on the bridges or motorway. Early morning departures are worth booking well in advance, since they're popular slots and locking in a specific time removes any uncertainty the night before a trip.
For arrivals, provide your flight number when booking rather than guessing a pickup time — your journey is tracked against the flight itself, so the pickup is planned around when you actually land rather than the original scheduled time.
Return Transfers and Flight Changes
If you know your return date before you fly out, it's worth booking both legs of the journey at the same time — it's one conversation instead of two, and your return pickup is already on file when you land. If your flight time changes after booking, let us know as soon as you're aware so your pickup can be updated to match, particularly if the change affects an early-morning or late-night slot.
Group and 8 Seater Airport Travel
Families and larger groups travelling together don't need to split across multiple cars. Our 8 seater minibus is available for airport runs, and the same principle applies as with our smaller vehicles — mention your group size and luggage when booking, so the right vehicle is arranged rather than swapped at short notice. It also suits groups of six or seven, not just full parties of eight; see our 8 seater taxi guide for more on group sizes.
If your group is arriving on different flights or needs collecting from more than one address on the way to the airport, mention this when you book — multiple pickup points can be planned into the same journey rather than arranged as separate bookings.
Luggage and What to Mention When Booking
Golf clubs, oversized cases, pushchairs, or a full family's holiday luggage are all worth flagging when you book, rather than left as a surprise at pickup. We won't promise an exact luggage volume here, since it depends on the vehicle and the rest of your party — the practical approach is to describe what you're bringing when booking, and the right vehicle (saloon, estate, or the 8 seater) can be matched to it.
Meet & Greet and Arrivals Pickups
For arrivals, you can ask for meet & greet when booking — your driver waits inside arrivals with a name board rather than at the kerb, which is particularly useful if you're travelling with a lot of luggage, arriving somewhere unfamiliar, or collecting visiting clients who don't know Dunfermline. If you'd rather be collected at the kerb or a designated pickup point instead, that's the standard arrangement and needs no special request.
Either way, provide your flight number when booking so your pickup is planned around your actual arrival time rather than the scheduled one.
Requesting a Fixed Quote
Every airport transfer is agreed at a fixed fare before you travel — there's no surge pricing added on the day. If you'd like to know the fare in advance of booking, ask when you get in touch and we'll confirm it based on your exact pickup address and destination terminal.
